Day One in the books!

by Nicholas Lowery | June 18, 2017 9:51 PM

The team's all here! We hit the ground running today with orientation, and traveling to Calderas for church service tonight with Pastor Rafael. We got back to the institute and prepared all of the bags for food distribution tomorrow morning! We've seen the Lord's hand and faithfulness to us already numerous times! He's guiding our trip this week. Ready for another day of ministry tomorrow!

This morning we delivered food baskets to families in Calderas! The afternoon involved lots of kiddos at VBS! Tomorrow we visit an orphanage and return to Calderas for day two of VBS.

Wednesday!

by Nicholas Lowery | June 22, 2017 11:20 PM

Yesterday we finished food distribution in Calderas and had our third day of VBS! A notable event from yesterday was our walk around the lagoon in Calderas- this turned out to be much more of an adventure than what we expected. It made for memorable afternoon though!

Tuesday night at the church service the team the team shared the "Champion" skit with the church as well as a few songs and testimonies by the students.

Attached is a photo of the "interview" of our new translator for the rest of the week, Andrea! Mr. Wynne led the interview and others asked questions. Good news; Andrea passed! Welcome to the staff, Andrea!

The work's not done yet! Our last day in Calderas

by Nicholas Lowery | June 22, 2017 11:29 PM

Today we tackled two construction projects at the church in Calderas. We replaced the aluminum roofing panels on a home, and mixed and laid concrete near the entrance of the church. This kept us busy until VBS in the afternoon. Our last VBS was memorable because of the "Champion" skit, the fruit loop necklaces, the Guatemalan version of "duck, duck, goose" (called 'pato, pato, ganzo') and sharing the story of salvation. Many children responded to the Gospel today with accepting Christ! Praise God!

Before service we rented paddle boats and set out on the lagoon...not all stayed dry...

Tonight we had a goodbye service with Pastor Rafael's church, and exchanged goodbyes as we packed up and left Calderas. It was sad to leave the people and children of Calderas behind. We hope to see them again soon!

Attached is a small look at the projects we did today!

Antigua!

by Nicholas Lowery | June 23, 2017 2:56 PM

Today we are in Antigua, Guatemala! We're enjoying a day trying new foods, shopping and taking in the sights that this small and historic town has to offer. Tonight we debrief the week as we prepare to leave tomorrow night. We heard that Erica (our cook for the week) is preparing a special "goodbye" dinner for us tonight too! We've been well fed this week, so whatever's in store tonight should be delicious! Please keep us in your prayers as we conclude our time here! We'll be stateside soon!
