Wheaton Bible Church

The team has arrived safely! We got to enjoy a wonderful church service at Spirit of God Fellowship. Afterwards we got to hear from Karen about Restoration Ministries and the different things they do. 

After church we got to enjoy a delicious lunch at Portillo’s!!

We are all settled in at Harvey Boxing club! 

We got to close today with some worship and getting into our small groups to discuss about our day. We got to talk about church, the different ministries we got to pray over, and the ones we will be working with throughout the week. 

We are starting off with our devotions to prepare our hearts for the ministry we will be doing. 

Today we got to be a part of the kids camp helping out with the K-5th graders. We got to play games with them, help them learn about the state and the world, as well as do chapel with them.

We had an absolute blast serving at the Restoration Ministries Thrift Store today! We were able to see the behind the scenes of the thrift store and the donation warehouse. Today we had the opportunity to sort through, hang, and organize clothes along with moving heavy furniture in and out of the store. Pictured in the front right corner is our great helper and now friend Maria. Maria was essentially our volunteer coordinator, she gave us different tasks to complete and encouraged us along the way! We are so grateful for her! 

Today Ashley’s van got to stay at the Harvey House and work with the kids camp. The kids camp runs from 9am-3pm and is for Kindergarten-8th grade students. We played games with the students, helped them with educational activities, music, and chapel! 

Today we got to spend some time organizing the food pantry and preparing for the distribution center on Thursday! 

When we arrived, we received an orientation from Maria who has managed the receiving area where she has sorted millions of garments over her 20 plus years of ministry.

Today was our last day at the thrift store. It was a hard days work but we played some games along the way to pass the time. At the end we even got to shop at the thrift store!

We got to help out around the neighborhood by doing landscaping for a property across the street and cleaning up the sides of the street! It was so amazing to see the impact that we could have on the community just by doing something as simple as mowing the lawn and pulling weeds! Even a few people stopped by from the community as they passed to say thank you.

This morning we got to serve at Restoration one last time before leaving. We had the amazing opportunity to use the gifts that God has given us to help with Restorations clothing give away. We were able to meet with people from the community, help them shop through the clothes we laid out, help load the bags into their cars, and then pray over them before they leave.
